25 JUNE 2006 1ST TOSAI STUDY MEETING
Past Activities

With the competition over, it was down to business and the real intent of the gathering was conducted. This was the all important sharing and learning session which everyone could voice their opinions and share their thoughts on the finer aspects of Ranchu appreciation. Each fish was discussed and debated the good and not-so-good points were pointed out during the members’ discussion. In the secretive world of Ranchu keeping, it is no secret that unless a master/experienced tutor is around to guide one through the 'maze', you could potentially take forever to maneuver through the intricate and confusing world of Ranchu keeping! It would be an understatement to say that there many completely differing opinions on about every single aspect of rearing these fish ( green water vs. clear water, low water vs. high water, live food vs. pellet food, etc)

A sumptuous buffet lunch ensued and closed the day's proceedings with the charged-up members already eagerly anticipating the next show at the end of this year and we would expect more Japanese and Thai Ranchu to be show-cased.

Although the judging criteria is not based on international standard, it is a good start for a young club to organize Ranchu Appreciation activities for the members’ benefits. The main objective of having regular study meeting is to encourage members’ participation, sharing knowledge and experiences.

After some time, the results were released and the winning fish was not unexpectedly a beautiful all red Ranchu bred by Mr Aod Koban from Bangkok. This Ranchu had the most gorgeous tail which moved the fish around the white basin in an almost effortless manner and it was certainly the undisputed champion of the day. It would be no surprise if it is among the top fish in next year's 3rd National Ranchu competition as well! 2nd place went to a stout little all red Ranchu produced by Rach Fuji(Thailand) which was compact and had a very thick back and strong tail.

The 3rd placing was taken by a junior red/white, again bred by Mr Koban which had all the ingredients for a very bright future in the show ring. This small fellow was certainly not intimidated by the larger competitors and carried itself with the gracefulness of a future champion. The prize presentation was then conducted and the owners of the fish had their big smiles captured by the ever enthusiastic club photographer.
